Nikon Photo Comp Shoot

The Brief

I am in Sydney and am organising a prize winner’s trip for a NIKON competition that ran recently. The trip involves having a photo taken.

The competition required people to send in a portrait shot of themselves via social media and also (in 25 words or less!!) write about their perfect shot…

This winner (who lives in MEL), requested:

I want to go out to a field with the grass coming up just below our knees, & to go at sunset. I want to take a photo of my boyfriend & I kissing.

We would be sitting down with our backs to the camera, with the light shining through the gap in between us.

The Difficulties

December in Port Douglas is Wet Season so finding the location was not the only hurdle.

After finding a suitable location the competition winners only had two days free to take the photo .

We chose a day and it was raining . We only had this opportunity and went to the location . Luckily there was a break in the weather

and we got the shot , however the sunwasn’t coming through . I decided to take a second shot of the sun peeping through the clouds and use that as the background as

it was on the day and the couple would relate to it more

The Pics

This wasn’t the image i had in my mind before the shoot . i was happy with the result considering the circumstances

The Rule Of Thirds

The rule of thirds may help you try to balance your pictures .

Placing objects on the intersection of imaginary lines that cut the frame into

thirds is a good way to start when trying to balance composition in a shot .

Remember rules are not always meant to be followed !

Mud Crab For your walls

Shooting a mud crab for a restaurant last week,

It looked so interesting i thought i might take a shot for the Gallery

Shot in natural soft light . I had the light coming in from the side very low to produce the highlight on the claw.

I bounced some light back in from the other side  and bottom
